At the Sochi Olympics in 2014, Canadian speed skater Gilmore Junio graciously gave up his spot in the games to his teammate Denny Morrison. This exemplifies all that the Olympic Games stand for. All of us at Jacknife felt that Junio deserved to be honored for his gesture, so we set up a crowdfunding campaign to help cover the costs of developing a commemorative medal for him. The campaign took off, receiving heavy media attention and support from the public poured in.

The custom-designed medal was fabricated from iconic Canadian materials with interlocking gold, silver and Canadian Maple burl parts. Those who pledged to the campaign had their names laser-engraved on the leather strap and inside the Canadian maple wood doors of the display box.
The medal was designed with other members of the Jacknife team and prepared for May 14 when it was presented to Gilmore Junio by students of the King Edward School in Kitchener, Ontario.
